Most foodies from Indian metros like Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Kolkata would swear by the food served in various Smoke House Deli outlets across the country, yet there is something really special about the one that has recently open doors for its patrons in Connaught Place, New Delhi (we believe it’s the 11th outlet across the country, so a big congratulations to the team behind the brand SHD) !
So, we recently raided the fifth outpost in Delhi and sampled some outstanding food as part of their seventh DELIcious year celebrations — and, even though we were prepared to over for the review, the food here was just too yummy that we couldn’t stop extending our meal for almost three hours ! Blame it on the hearty portions or the finger-licking dishes, but eating here is definitely an experience to behold.
Now there are so many things that one can go on and on about food, but we have shortlisted our top reasons to fall in love with this place.
Food Bites and Delights: For any good eating joint, the best and the most talked about factor is the food served — and, when that’s taken care of by kitchen experts, half the battle is won ! The menu of SHD not only appeals to adults but even kids can mix up the ingredients and create their own favourites.
From breakfast options like pancakes, omelettes and Basted Egg “Biscuit N Gravy” to signature lunch dishes like My Boss’s Style “Spaghetti’”, Spinach Ricotta Ravioli, Cambodian Basa with Smoked “Pimento” Puree, Smoked Lamb Shanks and Roast Chicken to a variety of sandwiches, burgers and pizzas — the variety of food is simply awesome.
Fresh Ingredients : The best thing about this deli that I found awesome was the usage of fresh ingredients in soups, salads and mains that we ordered. For example, the delightful crunchy salad was loaded with fresh goat cheese and the meat in our main course was cooked to perfection. For those who count calories, there is a section on health food that features dishes like Kefir Soaked Chicken with Organic Red Rice, Brown Rice Flakes Salad and Jowar Fettuccine with Tomato Braised Vegetables.
Dazzling Decor: Each SHD outlet has a story of its own, depending on the location and history of the place. The one opened near Odeon cinema in CP tells you a story of sorts with its eye-catchy illustrations and doodles that depict the facades of Connaught Place. Try spotting the old and famous toy shops, book shops, jewellery shops, old restaurants and cafes on the walls as you enjoy your meal.
Sweet Nothings : Even though the food is extremely filling at SHD, how can one skip the dessert? The in-house bakery has a wide selection of pastries and sweet breads, and apart from that, you can try out the special preparations like Cacao Nib and Soya Milk Cheesecake with Nachini Crust and Almond Milk and Spirulina Pannacotta. And, their smoothies and shakes are a must try, so don’t forget to order that!
