Prose from a Persian poetry at Suneet Varma’s finale act – Miss Junebug

At the latest edition of BMW India Bridal Fashion Week 2015, designer Suneet Varma’s final act is something that we are really looking forward to. The veteran designer’s collection called “Couture – A Love Story!” promises to be a treat for those who appreciate intricate craftsmanship and luxurious accessories. The designer talks to us about his latest collection and reveals that this Fall line is based on on the grandeur of the Ottoman Empire and the beautiful poetry of the renowned poet Omar Khayyam.

It took Suneet around six months to come with the entire collection, speaking of which he says, “This couture collection is based on the arts and literature of Persia – The love poems, the lyrical motifs, the decorative arts in architecture, the Persian blues, the soft pastels and the nostalgic shades of gold and rose. As always, the accessories and are a very important part of the show and styling. They are designed and handmade for this collection. Head dresses in beaten metal in antique shades of gold, ornate pieces of Meenakari jewelry and Swarovski crystals.”

The setting of the Finale is based on the Topkapi Palace — which is the greatest living example of the grandeur of the Ottoman Empire and is a large palace in Istanbul, Turkey.  Suneet’s Fall line is divided in three sub-collection namely : Arzu, Aziz and Abibba. “Each segment captures a unique perspective of the theme. The Arzu segment highlights the zari and reshams embroidery on soft nets as well as short jackets and soft stoles in velvet. The Aziz showcases silk georgette two piece saris as well as metallic tissue fabrics used for skirts with cutwork embroidery, and the Ahibba segment displays velvet silhouettes along with banarasi fabrics used for the stoles,” concludes the designer.
