Convention was never the case with designer Monish Jaising; however, this year it looks like “sea is the limit” for this Mumbai-based style guru who is ready with a beautiful couture line called ‘The Sailing Bride’. It took nine months for her to complete this line for the Amazon India Couture Week 2015. The designer gives Miss Junebug an exclusive story behind the creation of this unusual bridal story that promises to have a ripple effect on many luxurious weddings that will be planned henceforth.
“The theme for this show is the ‘Sailing Bride’, which reflects the amalgam of different elements, which makes up for a memorable wedding on a luxury yacht,” mentions Monisha. She says, “The new collection is a mix of bridal and evening wear – a total of 60 ensembles will be showcased in this show. There are well-detailed masterpieces, complexity of forms and its multiple interpretations of elements on fabrics which outline the nature of cross cultures of the world, the boat, sea foams, a few fiery pieces of the coral reef, starfish and shells, the stark beams of the sun, textured sand; these are the various forms implemented in each opus.”
Speaking about the fabrics and techniques used in this line, she elaborates, “A unique synthesis of upholstery fabrics such as tweed, leather mixed with luxe silk jersey, soft chiffon etc are being used for this line. Distinctive weaving patterns like cable knit, houndstooth and other forms of surface texturing that are the eye-catching details that one would notice here. Also a vivacious colour palette inspired by the atmosphere and hues of the sea, sand, beams of the sun and coral reef will set the bridal mood for Indian brides. We have constructed silhouettes which are easy to handle, as well as chic and trendy. There is no hassle of draping and pleating, making it a perfect choice for a wedding on a yacht.”
So, if you are a new age bride – the one who wants to look luxurious on her special day and prefers practical and light-weighted ensembles – then this a collection you shouldn’t miss.
