Designer Samant Chauhan’s latest A\W 15 line

There are occasions when sophistication of a good handcrafted ensemble overpowers everything machine-made. One such designer, who truly believes in the art of accentuating handmade Indian fabrics and converting them into unique pieces, is Samant Chauhan. The designer recently showcased his enormous Autumn-Winter 2015 collection at a high-end store and told us some interesting facts about his latest line.

Speaking about the ethic line, designer Samant Chauhan says, “It’s based on Rajputana Kumari from Nepal, which was our concept for Fall-Winter 2015. We used the designs and patterns from the royal traditional wear and adapted it for the Indian clientele. There are 400 pieces on display for this collection, were predominant colours are off-whites, beige and muted gold mixed with hints of red, black and orange tones. There are various sub-collections in this line and one can choose from the runway line, ready-to-wear line and couture line for this season. Strating price in this collection is from Rs 8,000 goes upto Rs 2 lakhs. ”

The designer adds, “We have used minimal embroidery in most pieces and the fabric that is used mostly is cotton-silk. For the bridal line we have used a special fabric that is infused with zari and a soft variety of silk-satin. The main techniques used in these garments are hand-embroidery, dabka work, peeta work and metallic embellishments. Every designer portrays Rajasthan in colours, but it was a challenge for us to do it in subtle colours, so we tried to create a very rustic and royal effect using these crafts.”
